What's New?
Visual Analytics is participating in a number of events over the next month. Here is a highlight of some of our scheduled events:
- VAI is proud to be a corporate table holder at the AFCEA NOVA Corporate Luncheon monthly series. You can view the
schedule of upcoming speakers at http://www.afceanova.org/oct2003/. If you are interested

- VAI will be participating at the AFIO National Intelligence Symposium 2003, “The Changing Face of Intelligence,”
which runs Saturday, November 1 through Tuesday, November 4, 2003. Distinguished speakers from the intelligence community, law enforcement,
and homeland security will be talking about the incredible changes taking place in the way the government does business. VAI's technology
is at the forefront enabling analysts to quickly visualize knowledge discovery, conduct advanced analyses, and create secure and selective information-sharing networks.
- VAI will be demonstrating the newest versions of VisuaLinks and DIG at a seminar at the FBI on November 13. The FBI is going through a major modernization
effort to include its infrastructure and applications to meet the growing demand for increased information-sharing and advanced analytical tools. VAI's technologies can
significantly enhance the Bureau's counterterrorism, counterintelligence, counter-narcotics, and financial crimes capabilities to enable predictive analysis and preventive action.
- VAI will be exhibiting at the National Military Intelligence Association's (NMIA's) “Defense Intelligence Status 2003 (DIS 2003)” to be held on
Tuesday, November 4, 2003, at Northrop Grumman Mission Systems. VAI will also be at NMIA's “Counterintelligence 2003 (CI 2003), Military Counterintelligence in
Transition,” on Wednesday, November 5, 2003 also at Northrop Grumman Mission Systems. VAI is the premier, best-of-breed provider of advanced analytical tools for
counterintelligence currently supporting organizations like CIFA. For more information on the upcoming NMIA symposia, see http://www.nmia.org/symposia/index.htm.

continued from the cover
VAI continues to fund research into expanding its focus on creating better fraud-detection solutions.
Flexibility remains a critical aspect for quickly responding to changing fraud patterns. It is
crucial to dynamically expose new patterns of fraud without having to re-program, re-train, or
re-invent the underlying systems. Remember, before you can classify patterns, you have to discover
them.
Additionally, providing a reliable and effective means of integrating multiple sources of data is
important for exposing larger fraud rings. The ability to combine data from different companies
and different sources is essential for fraud detection. As these trends continue, it will become
increasingly critical to integrate public record data sources such as ChoicePoint®, LexisNexis™,
and Accurint®. VAI has already made significant strides in making this a reality.
As our newest VisuaLinks and DIG versions are being prepared for final release, we certainly do expect to expand our support in the fraud-detection arena. As such, VAI is actively defining strategic relationships to better support the Special Investigative Units (SIUs) and tasks forces involved with fraud detection. Our goal is to help reduce fraud and minimize the financial burden for each person it affects.

intelligence analysts a robust, integrated suite of tools to look at the data from numerous
angles to discern patterns, networks, links, associations, anomalies, and changes of intelligence
interest.
