Thanks to everyone who has provided such wonderful and creative feedback for the name of this newsletter. We must say - you are an imaginative group.
Please keep submitting suggestions and in April, we will post the top contenders for your vote. In our May issue, we will announce the winner of the
VAI Prize Pack that was shown in our January newsletter.
The 2.0 version of VisuaLinks has progressed to a "release candidate" phase and final testing is being conducted at specific client sites to ensure
it meets certain operational requirements. During this phase, we are focused on testing multiple users, multiple sources of data, multiple models,
and overall throughput. We are using optimization software and techniques that have allowed our development staff to reduce the memory footprint of
VisuaLinks by more than one-half - which allows for larger and faster data loads. We are proud to remain on schedule for a full 2.0 release this quarter.
Our DIG system migration to a .NET architecture will be initiated soon. Moving to .NET is a critical part of making the DIG client web-based as well
as expanding to incorporate enterprise-wide support. In a nut-shell, .NET is a set of Microsoft software technology that utilizes XML web services
to enable distributed software components to communicate and share data with one another. Read more about DIG configurations in the DIG News section of this newsletter.
We also learned that our friends at the Maryland Economic Council have nominated us for the Seventh Annual Maryland Awards for International Business Leadership
to be held in Baltimore on February 27th. The award is based on several factors ranging from increasing exports to creative technology breakthroughs in
overseas markets. We are keeping our fingers crossed that we are one of the 3 finalists.
Finally, we are moving forward with our Data Clarity Environment (DCE) as the next generation data analysis and data dissemination suite from
Visual Analytics, Inc. The Data Clarity Environment will enable users to quickly find data from any pertinent source, relate different sources
together, and use the data for advanced analyses. Analysts using the Data Clarity Environment will have the ability to do real-time collaboration
with groups of other analysts. Data Clarity will incorporate data from databases, free text repositories, remote web sites, e-mail servers,
public records repositories, and local document repositories under a single analysis umbrella. Lastly, Data Clarity will provide both
application and thin client web access to all the back-end services in the Data Clarity Environment. We will keep you posted as we move
forward with establishing the DCE throughout this coming year.
Remember, your feedback is extremely important to the continued success of our software systems. Operational feedback from our user
community takes the highest precedence for the enhancement list we maintain. Use the Issue Report available on our
Support Site
to select the “Enhancement Request” type. We review and prioritize every request.

"Neither rain nor sleet nor record-setting snow falls will keep us from our appointed rounds..."
As winter closes in on our Poolesville, MD, offices, with record-setting amounts of snow and
unusually low temperatures, we are keeping our eyes focused on our first-quarter goal of
releasing VisuaLinks 2.0. VisuaLinks 2.0 Release Candidate 1 has been installed at several
beta-test client sites for review. Our focus now is on optimization and stabilization and
we're very pleased with our progress to date.
As with our previous two issues, the focus this month is on VisuaLinks 2.0. In this issue,
we review two new features and share some 2.0-specific tips.
This issue also looks at a specific application of DIG

After the tragedy of September 11, 2001, Congress enacted the Patriot Act of 2002. Sections 312 and 314 of the Act address anti-money laundering activities for banks and other financial institutions.
In this issue, we share with you how DIG can have direct applicability in this area. The DIG News article shows you how to configure your DIG installation to search the list of Specially Designated Nationals (SDNs) and blocked persons available from Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) at the US Department of Treasury website.
If you would like more information on this program, please visit the OFAC pages of the Department of Treasury at:
