March 2003  Volume 2, Issue 3

VisuaLinks Version 2.0 will begin shipping at the end of this month. VisuaLinks has undergone a number of improvements, including memory, speed, and overall performance optimizations. Many of the VisuaLinks 2.0 capabilities are not available in any other tool on the market. These unique capabilities are redefining the way members of the analytical community are performing their jobs. As we come to a close on this release cycle, we thank all who helped with testing, documentation, and development.

We have taken considerable time to document all of the major changes that have occurred over the past several months in the 2.0 Release Documentation. Before installing VisuaLinks 2.0, we strongly recommend that you read through the Release Documentation.

As always, we encourage you to use our Support Site to submit any issues you might encounter while using any of our software products. All issues are reviewed, assessed for criticality, and scheduled for inclusion in future releases according to priority.

We are already looking ahead. Development efforts on Version 2.1 have started and we've begun design work for Version 2.2. We expect to release a new version of VisuaLinks every 3 months. Please keep submitting your comments and recommendations so that we can prioritize and schedule them.

In the midst of all of our activities surrounding VisuaLinks 2.0, we've maintained a strong focus on our Digital Information Gateway (DIG) product. Early in March, we hosted a seminar to introduce the latest DIG features and functions to a number of our VisuaLinks clients. DIG is quickly becoming the preferred "data harvester" for multi-source access and integration. We have several regional and national implementations of DIG scheduled throughout 2003.

Tools such as VisuaLinks and DIG are providing the analysis community the tools to revolutionize our industry. We are proud to be part of this movement and we thank all of our customers for their support and assistance.

This month's issue takes a close look at VisuaLinks Mouse Modes. We'll briefly describe what they are and how they work. We'll also detail one of the modes as an example of how Mouse Modes generally function.

This month's issue also discusses the implementation of support for the Microsoft .NET framework in Digital Information Gateway (DIG). We'll explain the benefits of this effort.

Finally, the Name the Newsletter contest is still underway. If you'd like a chance to win the VAI Prize Pack (see the Reader Forum, below), you can still submit your suggestions.

VisuaLinks 2.0 is just around the corner. We've installed VisuaLinks 2.0 at a few of our client sites and are integrating feedback into the final release.

We're finishing up testing and polishing the code and documentation to deliver the best possible solution to our users.

We Just Love Customer Feedback

While this was not addressed to the newsletter staff, we were so proud when we received this e-mail, we decided to publish it here.

The following e-mail was sent from a customer to Duane Epperly, our DIG Project Manager, following a product demo Duane conducted for this individual.
Duane,

Just wanted to send a quick thank you note for the demonstration of your Digital Information Gateway today. I am very impressed with the powerful information retrieval tools that you've developed while adhering to the KISS principle to make it easy on end users to quickly adopt and use.

I am looking forward to further discussions with Visual Analytics.

Sincerely,
Jim
