May 2003  Volume 2, Issue 5

Visual Analytics was founded more than 5 years ago with the goal of creating the most advanced analytical technologies available to the broadest user community. Since its inception, Visual Analytics has developed VisuaLinks® and Digital Information Gateway™ (DIG) to perform analysis on both structured and unstructured data in a distributed, collaborative environment. These products work together toward an aggressive goal of relating any information from any location in any format together into a single analysis window. VAI understands that this goal may seem out of reach to some people, but we continue to prove our concepts in operational environments time and time again. Visual Analytics has accomplished this by focusing on our core competencies while at the same time forming partnerships with other industry leaders who are experts in their own domains.

Visual Analytics continues to build partnerships with vendors in areas such as text mining, business intelligence, web portals, relational and object oriented databases, reports, geospatial mapping, data providers, and many more. These partnerships are an important piece of the puzzle when it comes to delivering a comprehensive and complete solution to any environment in a timely fashion. Therefore, our strategy is to partner with the right companies and require that both sides understand each other's technologies and how they will be applied to satisfy customer needs. The goal of all VAI partnerships is to provide solutions to any environment that exceed our customers' expectations.

The results of any analysis are only as good as the data you are working with. Therefore, we actively seek partnerships with public records data providers around the world. These partnerships are crucial for finding and putting together the important pieces of any complex analysis. VAI ensures that our customers have access to as many sources of potentially important information as possible. More sources of information does not always equal better analysis. That is why we work with experts within different domains to ensure that we choose the right data sources and the right tools for the job. Additionally, VAI uses public data sources for frequently needed data verification needs. Examples of these sources include numerous reference databases, address validation databases, reverse phone databases, geospatial reference databases, and others. To that end, VAI has initiated the configuration of its own internal data servers to provide these sources to our user community. This will be a primary focus throughout the coming year.

With higher demand for the tools and data that VAI products offer through our partnerships comes increased need for people to install, maintain, and support these solutions. For this reason, VAI has formed partnership with many systems integrators around the world. VAI works closely with these integrators to make sure the solutions are installed and running well in operational environments. Sometimes this means that we help our integrators with customer support and sometimes it means that we provide custom consulting for an environment.

VAI will continue to actively seek new partnerships to meet our aggressive goals while helping customers perform better analysis.
This has been a very busy time for Visual Analytics. In addition to our recent release of VisuaLinks 2.0, we also released a beta version of DIG 1.3. Both products were released to excellent feedback.

VisuaLinks 2.0 has been requested and installed by numerous current and potential clients. This release has been well received by our customer base. We have received some very helpful feedback from our user community that is helping to shape our first 2.0 maintenance release.

DIG 1.3 was released to a limited number of beta testers. It has also been well received. Feedback from this beta release is being consolidated into the DIG baseline. Look for a full release of DIG 1.3 in the near future

We also have the results of the Name-the-Newsletter contest. We have a new name for our newsletter (did you notice our new page header?). See the Reader Forum for more information about the winning entry.

The Name-the-Newsletter contest is over… and your newsletter has a new name: The LinkLetter

The voting was fast and furious… for about two days. When the smoke cleared (which really didn't take very long), we were left with a tie. So, as we discussed in last month's issue, if there was no clear winner, the VAI staff would put the name to a vote to break the tie. We cast our ballots and decided on the name you now see proudly displayed on the header of each page.

Now here's the good part: the name The LinkLetter was submitted by Dan Huffman. Congratulations, Dan. We hope you enjoy the spoils of your victory. We're sure you'll be the envy of your officemates for your creativity, and especially for all the cool stuff you're going to get.

We extend our thanks to everyone who submitted entries to our newsletter. Many of the entries were delightfully unique.

Next month, look for newsletter feedback, feedback on the tools and for other reader-related materials in this section. If there is something you want to share with the VisuaLinks or DIG user communities at large, this is the place to do it.
