What's New?

DIG Symphony 1.0 is the latest DIG software solution being offered at VAI. The DIG Symphony Designer is a user-friendly application that provides enhanced data quality and custom results to the end-user. It implements a wide array of VB.NET data providers allowing access to almost any type of data imaginable.

The DIG Symphony Designer is available in two formats: as a stand-alone application or embedded into various components of the DIG Virtual Data Warehouse. It implements Unicode to support data in almost any language. As businesses strive to encompass global markets, they can also expand their DIG Symphony solutions to meet the needs of those markets.

In addition to its numerous built-in transformation tools, the DIG Symphony Designer includes a fully-integrated C# and VB.NET compiler. This powerful feature enables organizations to customize their own business rules for data processing, computation, or quality control and other workflow processes. It defines data transformations and lets you use the results to meet end-user requirements.
...that the C# Custom Code tool lets you create C# code scripts?

The C# Custom Code tool is a robust code container that creates custom scripts to define data transformations and business rules. It gathers and tests the C# code using the DIG Script Editor. Custom Code scripts created using the DIG Script Editor can be saved and executed whenever and wherever required.

The DIG Symphony Designer C# Custom Code tool lets you transform data from a data source field and convert it to any number of various formats. It also lets you derive data from any given source, and calculates on-the-fly results using various algorithms entered in C# code.

When launched from the DIG Symphony Designer, the DIG Script Editor opens with a number of functions specifically designed for assisting in the creation of C# code scripts including code templates. The data being used in the DIG Symphony Designer is automatically loaded and available for use with your script.

In the examples shown below, the C# code (Figure 1) transforms telephone information into various formats. Figure 2 shows time duration in seconds converted into hours, minutes, and seconds. Figure 3 shows the date of the phone call converted into day of the week.

DIG Symphony Designer

DIG Symphony Designer is a fully-functional data management tool that enables visualization of data quality implementation using a point-and-click designer. It is a user-friendly application that lets you standardize, integrate, parse, correct, enhance, and cleanse data.

DIG Symphony Designer includes custom tools that let you create scripts using either VB.NET or C# to further define custom data transformations and business rules. It is written entirely in C# managed code and has been completely migrated to .NET Framework version 2.0.

DIG Symphony Designer can be used to build any number of transformations to fully integrate your data sources and provide a single, consistent view of all of your data. It accomplishes this with its easy-to-use, well-organized interface. Transformation input data is displayed at the top of the preview area and their returned values are displayed at the bottom. This lets you seamlessly review the values before applying the changes and continuing.

Individual transformations are listed in the Process Tree, which is located to the left of the preview area. You can move, rename, and execute processes or transformations. When a transformation is executed, it is automatically added to the Process Tree. The order of the transformation can sometimes be important (e.g. values can not be placed into a column until that column exists). The transformed data can be applied to the same column or to a new column while the original remains intact.

The DIG Symphony Designer provides built-in support for numerous transformations on existing data. Each data transformation "routine" is saved as an XML definition. This helps guarantee compatibility with various organizations and provides reliable results that are returned in a consistent manner every time.

The following is a description of the transformation tools:

Transformation Tool Examples:

The examples shown below demonstrate some of the transformation tools that help compile clean, quality data from any database.

Use Change Schema to add or delete columns in your database view.

Use String Builder to combine data from different columns.

Data is taken from the FirstName, MiddleName, and LastName
columns and added to a new column called FullName.

Use the Format tool to transform source data from one format to another.

The DOB (date of birth) field was replaced with DOB1, DOB2, and DOB3. These new fields show
the same information (DOB) in various formats based on the Format Type that you select Ok.

Use the Replace Characters tool to replace specific characters in a column.

Use the Quick Scrub tool to remove any unwanted characters or spaces from the source data.

Titles (Mr., Mrs., and Ms.) and spaces were removed from the FirstName column.

Use the Split String tool to split or strip away string data separated by a stated delimiter.

The FirstLastName column was split into two columns,
FNSplit and LNSplit. In this case, the delimiter was a space.

Use the Trim Spaces/Characters tool to remove data by value or character length.

The first seven characters (HTTP://) were trimmed from the
MediaURL column and transferred to a new URL column.

Use the SQL Lookup tool to perform simple or complex multi-valued look-ups against any supported database.

Data was selected from one table and placed into
another table located in the DIG Virtual Data Warehouse.

VAI continues to provide user-friendly applications to gather, analyze, and improve data quality from numerous data sources. Ask us to demonstrate how the DIG Symphony Designer can help improve the quality of your organization's data.
